User Access Control

Open-Plant user access control

Each Open-Plant users will have a designated Access Level. The Access level determines what resources and functions a user is allowed to obtain/perform. In Open-Plant, Access Levels do not restrict the channel of which a resource/function is obtained/performed. Whether the user is accessing the resource through Open-Plant Client, Running OPScript or making Web API calls, the same resource restrictions applies. 

To configure a user's access level, from the Open-Plant Client, select 'users' and the following window will appear. Next, select the approprate role/access level and hit 'Save and Apply'.

The Access Levels

Some General Rules

- The access levels are hierarchical, i.e. higher access levels are allowed to perform all functions of a lower access level user.
- The Open-Plant client can only be accessed by Access Level 5 (Technician) and above. 
- Higher level users are able to create, delete, update details (including resetting passwords) of lower access level users
Access Level 1 - L1User
This is the most basic Open-Plant Application User.
  
Allowed Functions: 
- Read Tags and Data via Web API and Excel Addin
Access Level 2 - L2User
This is a basic Open-Plant Application User but has control over L1 User.
  
Allowed Functions: 
- Create/Delete/Edit L1 Users via Web API
Access Level 3 - L3User
This is a basic Open-Plant Application User but has control over L2 User.
  
Allowed Functions: 
- Create/Delete/Edit L2 Users via Web API
Access Level 4 - Connector
This Access level is typically used by the Open-Plant Connector as it allows the addition/creation of new tags
  
Allowed Functions: 
- Add new tag and data via Web API and Connector
- Create/Delete/Edit Access Level 3 users via Web API
Access Level 5 - Technician
This Access level is typically used by technicians to trouble shoot matters pertaining to an application, but is restrictive enough to prevent any mishaps to the system.
  
Allowed Functions: 
- Access the Open-Plant Client
- Configure Connectors via Open-Plant Client
- Delete tags via web API, OPScript and the Open-Plant Client
- Create/Delete/Edit Access Level 4 users via Web API and Open-Plant Client
Access Level 6 - L1Engineer
This Access level is typically used by enginers who wishes to have access to OPScript
  
Allowed Functions: 
- Access OPScript via the Open-Plant Client
- Create, Read, Update and Delete OPScripts via Web API and the Open-Plant Client (as long as the OPScript's minimum edit access level is lower or equal to the L1Engineer)
- Create/Delete/Edit Access Level 5 users via Web API and Open-Plant Client
Access Level 7 - L2Engineer
This Access level is typically used by senior enginers who have control over L1Engineer
 
Allowed Functions:
- Create/Delete/Edit Access Level 6 users via Web API and Open-Plant Client
Access Level 8 - L3Engineer
This Access level is typically used by senior enginers who have control over L2Engineer
 
Allowed Functions:
- Create/Delete/Edit Access Level 7 users via Web API and Open-Plant Client
Access Level 9 - Manager
This Access level is typically used by the System Custodian
 
Allowed Functions:
- Delete Tag Data via Web APIs, OPScript and the Open-Plant Client
- Access the Database Section of the Open-Plant Client
- Perform Database Queries via Web APIs and OPScript
- Create/Delete/Edit Access Level 8 users via Web API and Open-Plant Client
Access Level 10 - Administrator
This is the highest Access Level in Open-Plant
 
Allowed Functions:
- Delete Tag Data via Web APIs, OPScript and the Open-Plant Client
- Access the Database Section of the Open-Plant Client
- Perform Database Queries via Web APIs and OPScript
- Create/Delete/Edit Access Level 9 users via Web API and Open-Plant Client
